If you are hardworking, team oriented, reliable, and, customer service driven, this seasonal work is a great opportunity!  You will be assigned to work on a crew performing a variety of duties which may include routine grounds keeping at Solid Waste facilities, assisting in general maintenance work, operating a variety of light equipment, cleaning up illegal dumping sites, and roadside debris removal.
 
About the Job 
Hours of work vary depending on which team you are assigned to.  Groundskeeping hours are 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Litter Crew hours are 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.  Crews will be assigned on the first day of work.

There is a variety of work to be performed through spring, summer and early fall. Employment timeframe is between April 1st and October 31st. Duties may include:

      o Picking up trash from grounds and roadside
      o Sweeping, raking, and spreading mulch, gravel and soils
      o Cleaning plugged outdoor drains and washing buildings, traffic surfaces and  equipment
      o Mowing, edging, weeding, watering grounds and landscaping
      o Operating and maintaining a variety of light trucks and maintenance equipment
      o Flagging
 
Candidates should be comfortable working outside and working in a solid waste environment.  This position requires the ability to communicate effectively orally via radios with co-workers, leads, and supervisors.

Must be 18 or older by start date, have WA driver’s license, and have one (1) year experience in construction, maintenance work or commercial gardening, landscaping or yard care experience.

       o Review of your Washington State DOL Driver’s Abstract Record

Eligibility Register
 
This job posting is to create an Eligibility Register to hire Seasonal - Grounds Maintenance Worker I. Applicants who pass the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on an Eligibility Register which will expire on 10/31/2024.
 
This seasonal position pays $24.74 per hour and is typically scheduled for 40 hours per week.  You will be assigned to work at one or more of the Solid Waste county locations.

Screening Interview. 

Conditional job offers:  Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be emailed a conditional offer. Requirements of the final offer include:
  • Abstract of Driving Record (ADR) or Driving Record: Driving records are available from your local Washington State Department of Licensing office or website at www.dol.wa.gov and select “Drivers” and then click on “Driving Record” to purchase a WA driving record. Request a “Full Record.” Each driving record costs $15. To remain in active consideration for employment, you must provide a Full Abstract Driving Record within 4 days after accepting this conditional offer. 
  • Criminal Background Check:  Our Snohomish County Public Works Human Resources team will email you a link to complete the background questionnaire with DataQuest.  This link will be sent to the email address you provided on your application. Complete this form in its entirety and submit your information immediately. To remain in active consideration for employment, you must complete the background questionnaire within 4 days of receiving the email.
  • Physical Abilities Test (PAT) and Drug Screening - May 2024:  You will be required to attend a PAT.  This will include a drug/alcohol screening, medical examination and Physical Evaluation Fitness Test performed by a qualified healthcare professional selected by Snohomish County. This is a laborer position involving a variety of routine manual labor tasks. This includes strenuous physical effort such as lifting objects weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
  • Final offer and start date:  Applicants who have met all the requirements of the Conditional Offer will be emailed an Offer Notice.  The Offer Notice will include detailed information outlining the dates and requirements for your hire date/new employee orientation.
About the Solid Waste Division
The Solid Waste division oversees the disposal of garbage, hazardous materials, and recycling throughout Snohomish County. With three full-service facilities and an additional four neighborhood and special items facilities, the division is focused on:
 
  • Reducing overall waste from Snohomish County
  • Promoting and emphasizing the reuse of items and recycling
  • Handling household hazardous waste
  • Providing garbage and recycling facilities for county residents
  • Transferring garbage to the landfill or partnering with private vendors to handle recycled items
