Job Summary
The Commercial Banking Financial Data Analyst is responsible for gathering commercial banking data from various sources and platforms, analyzing it to identify trends and patterns, reviewing and dissecting reports to find and correct anomalies, and creating comprehensive reports and presentations for stakeholders across different levels of the organization. They collaborate closely with teams such as data, finance, marketing, operations, and human resources to provide data-driven insights that contribute to strategic planning and operational improvements. They will also frequently work with external vendors to assess how data points are generated and evaluating the quality and accuracy of data from both the bank and vendor. The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of commercial banking underwriting and general terminology associated with data sources coming from our commercial product systems and platforms. KEY FUNCTIONS:
This position aids and supports the commercial banking group as follows:
A Portfolio Report Analyst plays a crucial role in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to provide insights and support decision-making within WaFd Bank. This individual helps to identify gaps, and risks and subsequently clean and validate data that would be provided to the Executive Management Committee, Board of Directors and various State and Federal Regulatory Agencies. Attention to detail is a critical skillset for this role. This includes the following tasks:
1. Data Collection and Extraction:
- Extract data from internal databases, data warehouses, and other sources using reporting tools, and data visualization software.
- Clean, validate, and organize data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Works in some cases directly with the Chief Commercial Banker on projects and urgent matters that may arise.
2. Data Analysis and Interpretation:
- Identify anomalies and errors in existing reports and identify the source and reason for the error.
- Work with the front line and vendors to correct errors and ensure collaboration with training teams are addressed to rectify process gaps and ensure errors are not repeated.
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and correlations.
- Conduct statistical analysis and predictive modeling to forecast trends and outcomes.
- Interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights and recommendations for stakeholders.
3. Report Development and Presentation:
- Design and develop customized reports, dashboards, and visualizations using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Visio, or similar software.
- Create clear and concise reports that effectively communicate key findings, trends, and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.
- Present findings in meetings and discussions and provide support for decision-making processes.
4. Process Improvement and Optimization:
- Work with Manager of Syndicated Finance and Analytics to identify opportunities to streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and the front-line to implement improvements and enhance efficiency.- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in data analysis and reporting.
5. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency through regular quality assurance checks.
- Adhere to company policies, regulatory requirements, and data privacy standards when handling sensitive information.
- Adherence to bank policies and procedures designed to comply with Federal regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and OFAC regulations.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, or business administration.
Proven experience in data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
Proficiency in Excel, and data visualization tools such as Power BI, or similar software.
Strong working knowledge of nCino, Salesforce, Built, CoStar and Fiserv products.
Solid understanding and experience with commercial banking underwriting concepts and terminology.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Highly detail-oriented and organized, with a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with programming languages.
Knowledge of database management systems (DBMS) and data warehousing concepts.
Familiarity with advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms.
Certification in data analysis or business intelligence (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate).
