About the position:
This position provides supervisory and leadership duties for the Buildings and Grounds department of the Washington School for the Deaf (WSD)/Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth (CDHY), located in Vancouver, WA. This position is not eligible for telework and works Monday – Friday at the WSD campus location. This position may be required to occasionally travel to the Federal Way, WA CDHY Outreach office location. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Duties:
- Oversees maintenance and works with crew in the repair of facilities, grounds, and associated equipment in compliance with applicable codes, permitting, and regulations. Plans and schedules projects; inspects, approves and reports on all phases of projects.
- Supervises maintenance, grounds keeper, and custodial positions of the agency.
- Provides technical support and assistance to staff and determines individual employee training needs. Advises assigned staff on general safety information, environmental compliance, and related policies and procedures.
- Conducts performance evaluations to guide the development of employees, and provides a record of performance and ensures consistent evaluations and regular feedback.
- Prepares and justifies budget for assigned areas. Monitors and maintains expenditures within parameters or budget guidelines. Implements cost-effective measures and uses resources and technology effectively to increase productivity. Provides guidance to department supervisors with budget preparation and monitoring and reviews/approves departmental spending.
- Manages, tracks, records, and schedules testing for fire alarms, fire sprinklers, fire extinguishers, hood inspection testing, elevators, and pressure vessels.
- Assures accurate records are maintained. Conducts research to obtain and analyze data, prepares reports, manages service contracts, and makes recommendations.
- Interprets, explains, oversees and ensures the enforcement of ordinances, state and federal rules and regulations, policies, and procedures and makes authorized administrative decisions. Creates and/or updates policies, procedures and tasks.
- Maintains accurate building drawings, manages the organization and archiving of record drawings, building O&Ms, project manuals, and other related building and equipment information.
- Facilitates and leads the WSD campus emergency response team, participates on the Risk Management team, Safety Committee, COOP, and assists in incident response and recovery, as needed.
- Assists with project management of remodel and repair projects conducted by in-house staff. Participates on capital development project team for design and build of campus infrastructure, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications/Competencies:
- At least 3 years of facilities and grounds management or related experience.
- Possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities may substitute formal education.
- Must willing to work within a culturally diverse environment.
- If not already proficient, must be willing to learn and use American Sign Language
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and four years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, physical plant operation, construction, and personnel management.
- 3 or more years of experience of facilities and grounds management experience at an educational setting location/campus.
- Experience with 3D modeling software.
- Experience with and knowledge of public works requirements and capital budget planning.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, schematic diagrams and specifications.
- ASL fluency

Salary information:
