Curriculum Developer – Tribal Water and Sewer Program

SUPERVISOR: Native Environmental Science Department Chair
SALARY: $55,000-$60,000
The salary placement upon hire will be based on the selected candidate’s education and relevant work experience as outlined in the job announcement and the established salary schedule for the classification of position to be filled. This is a full-time position with benefits, that is funded for two years. Continued funding is possible as this position turns into a faculty position, post-completion of the certificate program.
SCOPE OF WORK
Northwest Indian College seeks a curriculum developer and expert in tribal water systems to design and implement NWIC’s water and sewer award of completion (certificate) program. The candidate should have knowledge of and expertise in water and sewer treatment operations, as well as experience working in a tribal setting. The candidate is expected to work closely with Lummi Nation’s water and sewer program and NWIC’s Native Environmental Science program to design and implement programming that will serve not only local water and sewer operations, regionally, but also across tribal nations. The coordinator will also work closely with Washington State Department of Ecology Wastewater Certificate Program, as well as coordinate with other colleges and certificate programs.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The main components of this work include curriculum and program development, training, liaising with tribal water and sewer programs, and state and federal water programs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May supervise student interns.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Required Qualifications
- MS degree in related field
- Experience working in or with tribal water and sewer departments.
- Experience in curriculum development.
- Familiarity with in-person and distance education technology (CANVAS, Webinars, Zoom, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience working in community settings
- Up-to-date understanding of water and sewer requirements
- Team Player
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching college courses in related fields
- Experience teaching at a Tribal college or knowledge of using Indigenous Knowledge Systems
- Experience working with Tribal organizations on environmental issues.
- Experience leading independent research
- Experience in developing courses
- Experience implementing and/or administering research projects and facilities or
- Any combination of the above that the initial screening committee deems appropriate.
