Summary:The ARNP Provider initiates the patient care cycle by providing primary, and if certified, OB care to Coulee Medical Center patients. This position fulfills a vital role in the community providing comprehensive health care to all ages emphasizing preventative health practices and disease management. The ARNP acts as the hub of the patient care team diagnosing and treating illness; providing routine examinations, referring to specialty services and performing follow-up. This position possesses the requisite skills and abilities to work quickly and efficiently in a sometimes-stressful environment while balancing and addressing patient concerns; acting as a patient advocate explaining procedures and relaying expectations while gathering pertinent information to determine appropriate care. Concurrently this position works as an advocate for quality and patient safety by thoroughly documenting the patient visit in a manner consistent with current standards of care. The ARNP is expected to keep abreast of new developments in their field. This position also acts in a leadership role providing medical direction to clinic staff. As part of a critical access hospital this position operates as support for the Emergency Department and OB unit. The ARNP recognizes their role in the patient care cycle and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team; supervising care given by RNs, LPNs, HCAs, NACs and non-licensed personnel while working towards attaining the goal of meeting the patient’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in a dignified manner. The ARNP supports the organization by being an active member of the medical team and carries out these duties in a manner consistent with the Mission and Vision of Coulee Medical Center.
Job Responsibilities:
Professionalism:
- Attend all clinic meetings
- Consult supervising physician as appropriate.
- Provides medical direction for the clinic’s health care activities
- In conjunction with other medical staff, participate in the development, execution and periodic review of the clinic’s policies and the services provided to Federal program patients.
- Establish and maintains healthy working relationships with staff, medical staff, executive team, vendors, and other internal and external customers.

Quality:
- Review labs, refill requests, and correspondence within 48 hours of rendered service.
- Complete chart dictation within 48 hours.
- Complete billing related activities within 48 hours of rendered service.
- Periodically review the clinic’s patient records, for appropriateness of care.

Planning:
- Apply critical and creative thinking to resolve problems and remove barriers for care providers, staff and co-workers.
- Assist in developing the medical staff strategic plan.
Financial Viability:
- Consistently communicate and collaborate with supervisors about legal and ethical issues.
- Assist in reviewing billing practices and suggest additional service lines that could be offered at Coulee Medical Center.
Safety:
- Be available through direct telecommunication for consultation, assistance with medical emergencies or patient referral.
- Demonstrate knowledge of emergency policies and procedures.
- Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Follow established guidelines when using protective devices and equipment.
- Demonstrate awareness of potential hazards and reports unsafe conditions to appropriate hospital staff to maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Monitor medical equipment for adequacy and safety and request service for maintenance and repairs.
Infection Control:
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection and exposure control in all patient care areas to prevent the spread of disease and infection.
- Adhere to Coulee Medical Center infection control guidelines for hand washing and standard precautions, and blood borne pathogens as evidenced by appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
- Report any and all exposures in accordance with OSHA and Coulee Medical Center guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Patients’ Rights:
- Provide privacy and maintains confidentiality.
- Ensure the patients’ independence and right to make personal choices and accommodate their needs in accordance with the interdisciplinary care plan.
- Provide care that ensures patients are free from abuse, mistreatment, and neglect, and reports any such incident to the appropriate hospital staff or state agency.
- Provide care to avoid the need for chemical/physical restraints by maintaining a safe environment for patients.

Competencies/Abilities:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients for their condition or illness or make appropriate referrals to specialists.
- Perform preventative services such as physicals.
- Be present for sufficient periods of time (at least once in every 2-week period) to provide the required medical direction, medical care services, consultation and supervision, including:
- Conducting chart reviews for quality assurance and adherence to medical policies;
- Reviewing health care procedures used at the clinic;
- Participating in the treatment of complex rural health clinic patients when requested by the nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
- Arrange for a suitable, qualified provider to replace self if unavailable for consultation.
- Participate in the annual evaluation of the clinic operation with the other clinic staff. i.e.: Physicians, Mid-Levels, Nurses and office staff.
- Demonstrate use of computer programs necessary to perform job functions effectively.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Current license to practice medicine issued by the state of Washington; Certifications as outlined in the Medical Staff By-laws. Graduate of an accredited ARNP program.
