The salary placement upon hire will be based on the selected candidate’s education and relevant work experience as outlined in the job announcement and the established salary schedule for the classification of position to be filled.

SCOPE OF WORK
The Director of Residence Life will manage all aspects and total operations of 64-bed residence hall on the Lummi Campus and the 22 apartment units in the Kwina Village Apartments. The Director is responsible for the implementation of a residential learning community environment in addition to development of programs and activities to support the needs and foster personal growth of students. This includes the effective utilization of fiscal resources, program planning and development and the coordination of functions between departments.
Community Development
- Through implementation of the Residential Learning Community philosophy and family education model, coordinate the development and facilitation of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities/programs that promote personal growth and student success.
- Coordinate production of quarterly calendar of events for resident students.
Administrative
- Manage day-to-day operations of residence hall and apartments including daily office hours and high degree of visibility for all residents and staff members
- Manage and implement all Residence Life policies and procedures
- Provide crisis management support and intervention, which may be required on weekends, at night, etc. Serve on an on-call duty rotation. Respond to additional emergency situations as necessary. Supervise 24-hour coverage of area.
- Update and maintain safety and security plan and procedures in coordination with NWIC Safety Office and hold fire drills annually.
- Coordinate with NWIC Security Officers to document, report, and respond to any security concerns in a timely manner
- Track and submit all maintenance work orders and billing for damage and coordinate facilities maintenance with NWIC Maintenance Department
- Forecast and review budgets on a quarterly basis, or more often as needed in efforts to maintain a deficit-free housing budget.
- Maintain student life housing database with accurate resident information
- Coordinate with Lummi Nation Housing Authority for applicant screening, maintenance concerns, or security concerns.
- Provide contact and problem resolution for students and LNHA housing advocates with respect to housing issues.
- Apply resident charges to be billed to student accounts
- Conduct and oversee Housing Committee meetings
- Adjudicate student conduct cases, track sanction completion, refer cases as needed, and coordinate and consult with supervisor regarding high level conduct cases or ongoing situations of concern.
- Manage room assignment process
Staff Supervision
- Interview, select, train, and supervise Student Resident Advisors
- Monitor work performance and hold staff accountable for meeting performance expectations, including reporting conduct issues and implementing residential life curriculum and community-building activities
- Provide staff with guidance about NWIC Residence Life policies and procedures
- Participate in training, conferences, meetings and committees as needed.
Student Development
- Contribute to the development and facilitation of the residential curriculum.
- Serve as a partner in the student's total development by working with: Advising, Student Counseling, Student Connections Program, Student Activities, and other offices as warranted.
- Facilitate the discipline process to serve as an educational tool.
- Contribute to NWIC recruitment and retention programs and initiatives.
Counseling/Discipline
- Follow up on all discipline in an educational and timely manner with appropriate documentation.
- Work collaboratively with the Dean of Students & Enrollment Management regarding conduct issues/process
- Refer all mental health concerns to appropriate resources and maintain thorough documentation.
- Complete safety plans, emergency contact notifications, and Student Expectations Meetings as appropriate.
- Engage family and/or other supports in creating success for students.
Other Duties
While performing staff supervision, community building and education, health and safety and facilities management duties of this position, the employee is required to access all floors and public areas of the building(s) on a weekly basis and periodically access floors and public areas of the other building(s) in the residential area as well as other buildings and locations on campus. Reasons for floor and building access may include but are not limited to facility and safety inspections, emergency response, student policy violations and safety concerns, staff member observation, and availability and outreach to residents. In instances of emergencies, the Residence Life Director must be able to respond in a timely manner appropriate to the situation. The employee must also be able to do exterior building inspections twice per semester or when buildings are closed for breaks. The employee is frequently required to utilize the computer and phone.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED to perform this position successfully:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required. Selected applicant who does not have a master’s shall be required to sign an agreement to pursue his/her master’s degree.
- Experience in developing and managing budgets and third-party vendor relationships.
- Excellent leadership and administrative skills.
- Strong problem-resolution skills and ability to handle confidential and proprietary information with utmost discretion.
- Understanding of student development issues in post-secondary education.
- Ability to represent the College in a positive and professional manner and work under stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain high professional standards and work relationships with an attitude of customer service.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Cooperative attitude and genuine concern for students and staff.
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a tribal college and/or a tribal community.
- Experience working in a college setting and in a team environment.
- Experience with and sensitivity to Native American people and cultural customs.
