Energy Efficiency Marketing Strategist

Overview The position collaborates with Customer Energy Solutions staff to develop and implement marketing plans and support the customer experience across the District's customer energy solutions programs. Responsible for developing and implementing all customer facing marketing activities to inform and accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency and other demand side management products and services including programs designed for income-qualifying households. Uses multiple data analytics techniques to segment customers, conduct beta testing and continuously improve the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. Implementation and management of online software tools to facilitate the customer experience and support team workflows. Mediums used are digital, streaming, email marking, print, radio, TV, in-person outreach, and social media. The position is also responsible for obtaining and translating feedback to the rest of the team from customers using a variety of tools including surveys, focus groups, social listening, and customer experience tracking tools. The position also collaborates with corporate communications to enhance brand reputation, reach target audiences, and achieve campaign objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead marketing strategy and plan development as a core member of the Customer Energy Solutions team. Develop resource plans and budgets on an annual basis. Develop and monitor key performance indicators and regularly modify marketing strategy based on results. Design program themes and brands consistent with District and department goals.
- Execute on marketing strategy and associated budget. Main contact for vendors and consultants for related contracting.
- Lead the development and implementation of customer feedback mechanisms using a variety of data gathering and analytics techniques. Use data to understand and segment customers. Review analytics related to online ads and webpage activity. Use user experience tools and social listening approaches to identify improvements in the customer experience. Interpret results and make recommendations based on results. Meet with customers or customer groups to conduct surveys or focus groups.
- Develop marketing campaigns in close coordination with corporate communications for consistency in messaging and brand voice. Key contributor in joint strategy meetings; share data, customer feedback, media monitoring and communication channel strategies to inform future campaigns and build brand trust. Coordinate on campaign timing, message alignment, and cross-promotional opportunities to ensure alignment with District strategies and objectives. Use shared tools and resources to improve processes and efficiency.
- Maintain and update customer-facing technical solutions for the Customer Energy Solutions team such as webpages, customer applications, scheduling services, analytics, monitoring software, automatic workflows, and segmentation tools.
- Stay up to speed on marketing research, specifically targeted at energy efficiency products and programs, as well as those for income-qualifying households. Mentor and coach other EE team members on the results of learnings.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
- As an essential function, drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

Education Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education.
- Bachelor's Degree (B.S., B.A.) in Marketing, Communications, Business or closely related field is required.

Experience
- 5+ years experience in the design, implementation, and assessment of marketing campaigns is required.

- Strengths and weaknesses of various communication channels with customers including social media, digital, print, email, radio, streaming, in-person, and television.
- Identify and track key performance indicators relevant to District goals and marketing objectives. Deploy and analyze digital tracking tools to improve customer experience metrics.
- Experience managing and creating responsive webpages, including general familiarity with HTML and CSS.
- Ability to develop and modify digital workflows using various software tools and conditional logic.
- General knowledge of District rates, policies and programs.
- Applied knowledge of energy efficiency, alternative energy and building science.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Develop marketing and engagement strategies to support District energy efficiency goals. Successfully develop and execute marketing programs consistent with identified strategies.
- Develop creative, integrated marketing campaigns.
- Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders as needed to implement marketing programs and increase the penetration rate of District energy efficiency programs.
- Translate information into tangible actions.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of campaigns.
- Manage third party vendors and consultants.
- Ability to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and summarize actionable recommendations.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to have intermediate knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials; Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Excel; Maximo Order Processing; and general office equipment. An individual is required to have basic knowledge of PeopleSoft Timekeeping/HR; Microsoft Word; and PC Hardware.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
- This position communicates with the public 5 - 20% of the time. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is desired.
