DESCRIPTION:
Bellingham Technical College is seeking an adjunct instructor(s) to teach courses in our Veterinary Technician program beginning September 2024. The teaching schedule will vary based on student and college needs and is expected to include instructional strategies that use in-person, simulation, blended, online, and hands-on techniques.
The Veterinary Technician program prepares students for employment in veterinary hospitals, surgery centers, specialty care providers, zoos, and wildlife facilities. Teaching content may include veterinary surgical nursing, large animal medicine, radiology, microbiology, nutrition, anesthesia, dentistry, or large animal nursing.

Position Duties & Responsibilities
Teach courses during the times and dates specified by the academic schedule;
Provide an updated course syllabus for each class, every quarter;
Ensure that the quality and quantity of instruction provided in the classroom is consistent with the state objectives of the college and industry;
Provide timely and accurate assessment feedback to students;
Supervise, and evaluate students' progress;
Maintain related student records, evaluations, and progress reports;
Consult with other college faculty and staff on issues relevant to student success and retention;
Contribute to the implementation of institutional effectiveness and outcome measures related to courses;
Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students;
Ability and willingness to adapt to changing teaching schedules and situations (on campus, online, hybrid, etc.) as required by program;
Effectively use computer applications where appropriate, including learning management systems;
Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences;
Demonstrate respect for others;
Other related duties as assigned and required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Licensed veterinarian or a credentialed veterinary technician who is a graduate of an AVMA or CVMA-accredited program.
- Five or more years of clinical experience in Veterinary Medicine;
- Ability to use the Internet, Work, Excel, Outlook, and other computerized instructional technology required of the program.
Preferred:
Recent instructional or training experience in veterinary medicine, or other related courses; Experience using CANVAS or other online course management technology.

Supplemental Information
Salary & Benefits:
Adjunct salaries will be determined according to the current negotiated salary schedules. Effective July 1, 2024, per course compensation for a 5 credit, 55-hour class would be $3,703.15 ($67.33 per hour); however, salary will vary based on course credits per class. Rate of pay includes payment for extra duties required for the teaching, prep-time, meetings, office hours, and professional functions associated with this assignment.
Benefits: The following benefits are in accordance with the Bellingham Education Association (BEA) and subject to change with each negotiated contract. Current BEA contract expires June 30, 2025. Benefits include paid sick leave. Sick leave is accrued based on their contracted FTEF multiplied by 7.5 hours for each month in active teaching status. In addition, if eligible, a 5% per hour more above the teaching rate doctoral stipend if teaching a five credit or more course (not paid on contract training, community, or continuing ed courses); In addition, a 5% Longevity premium rate after teaching 1375 hours at BTC. Other benefits include Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a free counseling & referral program; potential flexible and/or remote schedules. No additional benefits.
Condition of Employment: Background Check: Prior to final hire, a pre-employment background, including criminal history and signed declaration statement as it pertains to sexual misconduct per Washington State Law (RCW 28B.112.080) will be conducted. Employment is contingent on passing the background check and signed declaration per RCW 28B.112.080 satisfactory to the college. Information from the background check and declaration will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
