The Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s (OIC) Health and Life Actuarial Services is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to fill an Actuarial Analyst 1 position. This position is assigned to the Rates, Forms, and Provider Networks Division, located in our Tumwater office.

The Actuary Analyst 1 reviews and acts on basic health and disability insurance rate filings and assists with the review of Affordable Care Act (ACA) binder filings under close supervision.

This is a Washington General Service position. The monthly salary range for this position is $3883 - $5214.

Duties
The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing basic actuarial calculations submitted by health insurance carriers.
- Evaluating reasonableness of health carrier data and actuarial methods.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable statues and regulations.
- Handling all filings in accordance with established OIC and SERFF procedures.
- Reviewing the rate portion of the binder filing.
- Assist rate and form analysts with problems and questions related to binder filings.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, physical science, economics, or equivalent field from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation or a foreign equivalent.
AND
- Successful completion of one Society of Actuaries (SOA) examination.
In addition to the above qualifications:
- Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills.
- Basic level Microsoft Work and Outlook skills.
Preferred/Desired:
- Completed a university course that required construction of mathematical proofs.
- Advanced level Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience programming in Excel, R, or Python.
