TheWriting Tutor (InstructionalandClassroom Support Technician 1) reports to the Writing Center Program Manager. This role will workcollaboratively witha dynamicteam thatprovidesholisticand culturallysustainableacademicsupport services. To promote equitablestudent access and success, the ProfessionalWriting Tutor position fosters the empowermentofstudents'academicandsocial experiencesthroughactivelistening,affirmation,andgenuineempathy that honors each student's journey and experience.Listening, observing, valuing and validating, embracing,and building meaningful relationshipswith student writers is at the heart of this position.The Writing Centerpartnerswith numerous college instructional and non-instructional student support programs to create a community of authentic, holistic, respectful support.
The Writing Center Tutor will work with Writing Center program administratorsto help assess the effectivenessofthe embedded work in reaching and working with historically non-dominantstudents, help create a learning environment that normalizes the idea of an academicsupport network, help dismantlea deficit conceptionof support-seeking and working with tutors,engage in administrative and record-keeping functions in the Writing Center to maintain data necessary for institutional research regarding writing tutoring initiatives.

EssentialFunctions
TheInstructionandClassroomSupportTechnician1willberesponsibleforthefollowing,butnotlimited to:
WritingTutoring
• Provide1:1andsmallgroupwritingtutoring insubjectsacrossthecurriculum.
• Engage in professional development bylearning about current writing center scholarship and ideas, particularly in areas that support historically non-dominant students in developing awareness of themselves as confident, empowered writers.
• Promote the Writing Center as a compassionate,equity-based, antiracist academic support servicethat encourages a non-deficit approach to educational support.
• Provideholistic,caring,proactivecustomerservicetoourstudents.
ProgramSupport
• Provide classroom-embedded tutoring in various modalities: in the physical classroom, the learning management system, and other learning systems.
• Liaise with faculty and Writing Center administrationto determine successful engagement and activities inclassroom embedded work.
• Communicate effectively to faculty, students, and staff about your scheduling availability for classroom-embedded work.
• Providetimely,constructive,andcompassionatefeedbacktostudentwriters.
• Inform the Writing Center administration ofissues that might arise inclassroom-embeddedwork for which you may need additional support.
• Maintainrecordsrelatedtoclassroom-embeddedtutoringactivities.
RecordKeeping&Reporting
• Maintainprogramschedulingandrecord-keepingusedtocollect, coordinate,andimplementprogramservices.
• Engage inembedded support program Canvas pages,scheduling systems, and other learning management systems.
• Createandmaintainclientreportsofwritingconsultations.
Qualifications
EducationRequired
• Associate'sdegreefromanaccreditedcollegeoruniversity.
ExperienceRequired
• Experienceworkinginawritingortutoringcenter.
SpecialRequirements

TermsofEmployment:
Thisis a part-time (approximately17 hoursper week, notto exceed 69 hours per month) classified, overtime-eligible position with Pierce College District. This position is permanent after serving a six (6) month probationaryperiod. Occasional travelto PierceCollege campusesor sites may occur. Work hoursinclude MondaythroughWednesday,10a.m. to 3 p.m.,andFridays from12 p.m.to 2p.m.Thisposition may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.This position requires regular and consistent attendance.
Salary&Benefits:
The starting salary of this position is $20.80, dependent upon qualifications, with periodic increments upto $25.20 hourly. This position is not eligible for benefits.
PhysicalWorkEnvironment:
This position requires primarily working indoors in a classroom-embeddedenvironment. It requires visual concentrationon detail, dexterity, and precision and is subject to frequent noise and interruptions.It requires in-person work primarily, but occasional online work may be approved to serve our students better.
