AGRICULTURAL WORKER, X8, - GRANGER
This is a job order for cherries, apples, pears, peaches, and various vegetables and melons.
This job opportunity is limited to qualified, available workers that are currently eligible to work in the United States, per federal regulation.
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of cherries, apples, pears, peaches, and various vegetables and melons. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production.
Duties related to general farm work may include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; recognize crop nutrient/moisture requirements an apply the appropriate care; mix and/or spray chemicals such as herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable) by hand or machine; spread fertilizer; haul/spread soil or products to condition land; lift items such as rolls of plastic, bundles of wire, and rolls of drip tape overhead; read/interpret meters used to regulate/control environmental conditions; start fans that circulate air or light smudge pots or torches to prevent frost damage; mow/tend farm areas; paint/repair/maintain farm structures/grounds; perform general clean-up of farm areas and worksites; align, set up, adjust, and test machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment; mix/prepare specified materials or chemicals; fill sprayer tank with water and chemicals, according to formula; connect hoses and nozzles; drive machinery with implements to spray trees/crops; start motor and engage
machinery such as sprayer agitator and pump; lift, push, and swing nozzles, hoses, and tubes to direct spray over designated area; manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery; observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions; operate hand sprayer or towed machine to spray crops; maintain, clean, and repair equipment, supplies, and/or systems; climb in and out of tall trucks and various truck beds and/or trailers; operate tractor/truck/forklift to load/unload products; work with augers, gas motors, generators and electrical cords; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure proper machine
operation; adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; prepare for harvesting of crop including spreading liners in bins and rolling bins into blocks by hand; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.
Duties related to irrigation may include the following:
Hand lines: connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals; move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis.
Flood Irrigation: lift gate in side of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water to flow into bordered section of field; shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow; close gate in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded; open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releases water flow into reservoir or ditch; siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water into designated areas; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water; mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways, and make minor
repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates.
Drip Irrigation: move and lay drip irrigation equipment in fields; maintain and repair drip irrigation; flush drip irrigation lines; remove drip irrigation and layflat from fields prior to harvest; walk behind tractor to ensure layflat spools correctly when removing from field.
Other Irrigation Duties: lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools; observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 60 pounds.
HOURS/DAYS/SCHEDULE
7 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 5 hours on Saturday.
The contract period is from March 4, 2024 to November 15, 2024.
SALARY/WAGE/BENEFITS
No work will be performed at less than the AEWR of $19.25 AEWR
The payroll period shall be weekly.
The employer will furnish, without charge, all tools, supplies and personal protective equipment required in the performance of the specified work.
Employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities including utensils,
stoves, refrigeration, and dishwashing accommodations to workers who are not reasonably able to return to their residence within the same day. All cooking and kitchen facilities will be maintained in working order and are sufficient for workers to provide and prepare three meals a day. The employer will provide free transportation to stores at least every two weeks to allow
workers to shop for groceries and other necessary items. In the event the housing indicated in this clearance order becomes unavailable and the employer secures alternate housing which does not contain free and convenient kitchen facilities (in accordance with 20 CFR § 655.122(d)(6)), the employer will provide each worker with three meals per day and charge for such meals at the rate of $15.46 per day.
Transportation costs to the job site for domestic workers from outside the local commuting distance of the job site will be reimbursed by the employer after 50% of the contract period. In order to comply with the FLSA, the employer will advance any amount owed prior to the first paycheck. Workers who do not complete 50% of the contract will have the advance deducted from their final paycheck.
Transportation costs from the job site to the workers home will be provided to those domestic workers that complete the entire contract period.
Employer guarantees to offer employment for the hourly equivalent of 3/4 or 75% of the workdays of the work contract beginning with the first day of work.
