Position Summary:
We're seeking a compassionate and organized Volunteer Coordinator to join our vibrant community market team. This role is crucial in creating a warm, welcoming environment for our volunteers and ensuring the smooth operation of our market. As the heart of our volunteer program, you'll be responsible for scheduling, orientations, and community engagement, using your excellent organizational skills with Microsoft Office and database systems.
Your impact will extend beyond our market walls as you engage with local businesses, schools, and service groups, fostering a spirit of collaboration and shared purpose. Your work will directly support our mission: providing opportunities for community members to engage in hunger response and food justice through volunteer tasks that support food distribution, advance advocacy work, inspire financial giving, and promote equity programs.
By educating our volunteers about our mission and the impact of their efforts, you'll help create a community that understands and actively works towards ensuring equitable access to food for all in our state.
Responsibilities:
Program Administration:
- Schedule and recruit volunteers for our community market
- Be the friendly first point of contact for prospective volunteers
- Manage the volunteer database for tracking, communication, and scheduling
- Collaborate with the market team to align volunteer schedules with operational needs
- Partner with local entities to share volunteer opportunities
- Screen and process volunteer applications, track hours, and assign locations
- Maintain attendance records and other tracking documents
- Participate in monthly team meetings to enhance collaboration and processes
- Manage inventory and upkeep of volunteer areas
Volunteer Relations & Community Engagement:
- Build warm, professional relationships with all volunteers
- Work with market staff to create a welcoming environment for volunteers
- Provide orientations and warm welcomes for all volunteers
- Plan engaging activities, listening sessions, and milestone events
- Document and report any volunteer concerns to management
- Collaborate with other teams to create diverse volunteer engagement paths
- Build relationships with community partners for market customer resources
- Assist with community engagement tasks like tours and stakeholder interactions
- Support in communicating safety information and de-escalating situations
- Partner with management to address volunteer-related situations respectfully
Additional Duties:
- Occasionally work off-shift hours for special events
- Travel locally and occasionally statewide for opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly sit, talk, see, hear, stand, walk, and use hands
- Lift up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Close and distant vision, ability to adjust focus

Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years in clerical tasks, customer service, or human services
- 1 year in a volunteer program setting
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
- Familiarity with safety practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems (Salesforce a plus)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines
- Commitment to serving with dignity and understanding diverse populations
- Valid driver's license or reliable transportation

- Ability to speak a second language (Spanish, Vietnamese, or Cantonese a plus)
