Job Description: Data Center Technical Operations Engineer (Facility)
The Data Center Technical Operations Engineer (Facility) is responsible for overseeing Data Center Engineering Operations within an Amazon Data Center. This includes risk management, mitigation strategies, corrective and preventive maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor coordination, and operational metric reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage on-site shift technicians, senior technicians, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring all work aligns with established procedures and best practices.
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct operational analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.
- Collaborate with IT managers and business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Operate and manage routine and emergency services across critical systems, including:
- Switchgear
- Generators
- UPS systems
- Power distribution equipment
- Chillers
- Cooling towers
- Computer room air handlers
- Building monitoring systems
- Support design and build-out efforts for new facilities as needed.
- Assist with projects aimed at improving facility efficiency.
- Oversee asset and inventory management.
- Deliver high-quality service and ensure all customer requirements are met.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Degree (Military/Trade School) with relevant experience.
- 2–4 years of relevant work experience.
- 2–4 years of management experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2–4 years of Data Center Engineering experience.
- 2–4 years of Data Center Management experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Fundamental knowledge of network design, layout, and low-voltage cabling (copper/fiber).
