Job Duties: Research, design, build, and test the next generation of Dropbox’s engineering technologies. Build software to handle metadata for hundreds of billions of files, hundreds of petabytes of user data, and millions of concurrent connections. Analyze software requirements to deliver a feasible design within time and cost constraints. Write modular, secure, and well-tested code to ensure the integrity of our technologies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop highly scalable performant solutions. Ensure that our development environment is best in class by delivering improvements to internal tooling and direct partnership with our product platform teams. *Hybrid work is permitted. When not working from home, must report to Seattle, WA office.

Such expertise/knowledge cannot be “quantified” by “time.” Required expertise/knowledge includes: Experience in distributed systems enables engineers to design and maintain highly available, fault tolerant, and horizontally scalable search infrastructure; Proficiency in Go and Python for building efficient, maintainable backend services and data pipelines; Expertise in Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud platforms to automate and scale deployments across hybrid environments, ensuring consistent, reliable, and rapidly scalable infrastructure to support search on a global scale; Experience with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry for proactive detection and resolution of system issues, improving reliability, reducing downtime, and ensuring performance meets defined SLIs and SLOs; Proficiency with Kafka and Spark for real-time ingestion and processing of continuous data streams; Knowledge of search engines such as Elasticsearch and OpenSearch for the design of scalable indexing pipelines and optimized query execution, delivering fast, relevant, and context aware search experiences for users; Experience with vector databases like FAISS and Milvus for the implementation of semantic and hybrid search, enhancing contextual understanding, personalization, and AI-driven discovery; Building automated CI/CD pipelines ensures safe, repeatable, and efficient deployments, reducing errors, increasing release velocity, and maintaining reliability; Expertise in system profiling and optimization for fine-tune caching, networking, and storage parameters to achieve sub-second latency and cost-efficient performance at a global scale; Strong operational leadership and adherence to SRE principles to ensure high availability, effective incident response, and continuous improvement.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Software, Computer Engineering, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or closely related field (or foreign equivalent) plus four (4) years of experience in the job offered or closely related occupation OR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Software, Computer Engineering, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or closely related field (or foreign equivalent) plus two (2) years of experience in the job offered or closely related occupation.

In Seattle metro, the expected salary range for the role is $225,300 - $304,800/year. Several factors are considered to determine starting pay: job/level, location/metropolitan area, skillset, peer compensation.
